Policy-Driven Workflow

Twisted Storage is Storage Done Smart

Storage is no longer just "a place to put stuff." Today's storage system is part of the business process, it is integral to defining what gets stored, where it gets stored, who can access it, who can change its content or metadata, how long is it retained, what type of media is it stored on, is it ever migrated to another media type and when, does it get placed into a long-term archive, and on and on and on - your storage system is part of your business as never before.

Your House, Your Rules

In Twisted Storage every step in the process, every decision, every action, is part of a policy-driven workflow that can be customized to meet your unique business needs and even your wants. Policies can be changed quickly and easily, even on-the-fly without disrupting operation, when your needs require or just because you or your team want it to work in some new way.
Policies in Twisted Storage are easily edited XML documents that generate workflows which are executed during ingestion of each file. The workflows can perform virtually any action on the file including programmatic ones where the action taken depends on the data or metadata of the file itself. Since they are executed at ingestion modifying them on-the-fly is perfectly practical.

Even Change the Rules After They Have Been Applied

Sometimes the rules change - usually immediately after you have just completed all the work to implement the last set of rules! Policies in Twisted Storage can be retroactively modified.
For example, if the required retention policy for a type of document changes then the policy can be changed and applied to previously stored documents, new documents being stored, or both.

Respond to External Triggers

Because Twisted Storage policies are essentially mini-programs they can interact with external conditions such as date, time, financial data, user interaction, etc. A patient's medical imaging files could automatically be migrated from slow storage into fast storage the day before a scheduled doctor's visit. Or, all the Christmas music could be brought out of "cold storage" on off-line data tape right after Thanksgiving.
