Dynamically Scaled Hybrid Enterprise Storage Cloud

The Opportunity

No matter how large the enterprise storage cloud is - there can be times when it just is not big enough, even if only for a few days or weeks. And building enough excess capacity to handle high load time periods is expensive and wasteful.
The availability of public cloud storage systems such as Amazon S3 provides an extraordinary opportunity to create a hybrid storage cloud, a dynamically scalable combination of the proprietary enterprise storage cloud and the public cloud that can grow or shrink on very short notice to accommodate temporary storage surges.

The Twisted Storage Solution

Twisted Storage includes an adapter that provides an interface between a Twisted Storage federated enterprise storage cloud and the public cloud. The policies within Twisted Storage control the conditions under which files are migrated or stored directly into the public cloud. These same policies control whether the files are encrypted, what encryption is used, file deletion, and the number of copies to be made. Additional policy parameters can migrate specific data back from the public cloud into the private cloud. This allows the hybrid storage cloud to be scaled back down as fast as the data can move.
The x509 certificate-based access control system within Twisted Storage also controls access to the files stored on the public cloud.
The global indexing and search feature indexes all the data and metadata of the files that are stored into the public cloud just as it does the files stored in the private enterprise storage cloud.
